Lawn treatment large franchise

One of my regular lawn cutting customers has his lawn treated several times a year by a large franchise.  I went to see him the other day and large franchise had done a Moss Treatment in January and wold be coming back later in the year to do a feed.    I call it lawn its more moss, i have suggested to him that it would be better to Scarify the lawn rather than treat it with chemicals.  Does anyone know what these guys charge? its a fairly large lawn and takes me a bout 1hr and half to cut and collect.  Also what would large franchise charge to scarify a lawn that size?  I have heard that they are very expensive?

Cost varies a lot between the different franchises as the head office chooses the plan and the price point in order to target different market segments and compete with other franchises. I don't know what they would charge to scarify a lawn of that size but I expect it will not be too different to what anyone else would charge, especially if the waste is to be hand raked afterward. Franchisees do not usually carry the motorised equipment for work on a large scale.

There is no reason why the customer couldn't ask for a quote from a few different companies, they may prefer to work with an independent local firm!

Ben, really need an idea of sqm to give any sensible figures on pricing. Have a looking on findlotsize.com to measure.

  • also the moss wants treating before scarifying otherwise it just spreads the moss. and they do not usually take it away, leave it for the customer to get rid of

yes, if forgot about that. It's worthwhile checking that they take it away with them as not everyone does.

Many are now doing scarification before iron treatments! When moss is very thick the treatment may only affect the top layer of moss. By scarifying first to remove the bulk of the material, then applying the treatment, you will be more likely to get all the moss.

Of course, there will be underlying reasons for the moss and these should probably be addressed if the customer wants to prevent it's return each year.

  • Thanks all for coming back to me.  The lawn is about 500 m2 give or take.  Some parts are more moss covered than others.  I don't think it the aim is to remove the moss they have just treated it.  IMO it really should have been scarified then treated.  I worked for a company that Scarified an airfield then treated it with chemicals it worked well but was very expensive.  Also does anyone Lime lawns to balance the PH?
