Hi there

I would be really interested to hear people's opinion to a particular recruitment challenge I am facing at the moment...

We have recently posted some job adverts to recruit for a new member of our team to work closely with all the large landscape architects practices and big multi-disciplinary architects offices in central London.

But to help you better understand the particular demands of this role, and therefore our approach to the type of person we are looking for, let me first tell you a bit about our company

Bailey Artform is at the leading edge of integrated landscape design supplying some of the most inspiring, design-led street furniture products from some of the biggest global names in industrial design

(examples?....Frog Design who designed the first apple mac created our 35 urban furniture Collection - Yves Behar whose design of our Mutliplicity site furniture range recently won the international Red Dot design award...to name but a few)

It is our job as a valued partner in these schemes to engage early on with landscape architects and specifiers to help bring their visions to life when designing various high profile, public realm schemes

Needless to say, this role is not merely a sales rep gig of "order taking"  or "selling benches based on lowest price" etc

That is NOT the end of the marketplace we are operating in....

This unique role requires a detailed knowledge and appreciation of landscape design and the profession of external place making as a whole, in order to command the respect of the landscape arhcitects involved who are at the top of their game.....

So herein lies the problem I am wrestling with...

  • It makes sense to hire a landscape architect or urban designer who can hold their own in these high level conversations and actually bring something to the table creatively...right?
  • But then how do you hire a landscape architect (with a passion for design and fresh ideas etc) to carry out a role which ultimately is commercially driven in that it exists to drive specification sales of our outdoor products?
  • Do such a people exist in the UK marketplace?
  • How do you persuade a landscape architect to take on a business development role?

There you have it...I'd really apperciate heargin peoples opinions and practical tips on this ;)

Heck you might actually think "I fancy a go at that myself!"

If you know anyone who fits the bill then feel free to direct them towards our careers page www.baileyartform.co.uk/pages/careers

Or they can email hr@baileyartform.co.uk

Thanks in advance for any help guys :)
