Is Brexit causing timber prices to rise?

I just recieved an email from one of my timber suppliers stipulating that there will be price increases in October due to the Brexit.

However, on having a google there is no mention at all about this other than speculation from before the vote and I haven't heard anything about this from any other suppliers.

Has anyone else experienced price increases due to the Brexit?

"Feedback from UK timber importers in the aftermath of the Brexit referendum vote on 23 June is that their most immediate concern is the exchange rate."

I think prices are rising because it a good excuse in some respects.
On the other hand prices of things in general have been fairly flat in the last few years.
You only need look at the interest rates to see that. The Bank of England has been trying to raise inflation for years unsuccessfully.

I also feel that people and companies are using Brexit as an excuse to increase prices! Maybe some of these people and companies would have preferred to have stayed in the EEC!

  • I have not seen any real increase in prices since June. However, when Article 50 is invoked eventually, I think we will see the real Brexit aftermath over the next two years. Certainly, I have seen several businesses being cautious about expanding until it become clear what Brexit will mean to the UK. Personally, I think the Government will wait to see what happens in Europe next year as there will be several elections in prominent European countries. One thing's certain, Merkell will not be Chancellor next year and the political scene will be shifting to a more nationalistic basis.

This is absolute nonsense. Brexit has not yet begun, the stock market is strong and excahnge rates, although not great, were at a similar level prior to the vote.

This is suppliers looking to blame something other than the fact that timber prices are increasing while putting on a price increase of their own.
  • I agree timber is not as good as it used to be my father has fence up for 35yrs and still standing client put up fence and it about to fall after 15yrs.
I was shocked yesterday when i went to get railway sleepers and they where smaller than usual only 8ft instead off 9ft and inch narrower as well. They coming from america now instead off russia so im told. But it same as all products pay the same for less amount. Chocolate bars is my example hmmm chocolate.
I got a call from my parts dealer and he said prices going up by 10% because off brexit but i figure its just the currency exchange and its easyier to say brexit.
Cant really blame them if u can up prices you get more profit. I had to up my prices when i started paying pensions for my employees but thats a whole other thread lol
