Improving Hayter R53s and buying future alternative

HI folks.

Im new to the forum so hello to all. This year will be my 5th year trading cutting domestic lawns. I work alone and run 3 Hayter R53s. Having recently found the forum i see these mowers seem not to be well regarded. I find them ok in the dry but do struggle in the wet. Having not had anything to compare with i thought this is normal??

So my questions are ...

Is there a way of improving the Hayter R53s mowers and how they collect .... especially in the wet??.

Looking further into the future ... what would people suggest i consider as a better model of mower. Ideally with the following features ......

Something similar to the Hayter Sensa-Speed drive

Single height adjustment

Facility to mulch and collect

Under £600

  • Take a look at the Atco Liner, we bought one during the summer to see how it performs against our Hayter Harriers. Atco have been working hard on the ironing out the weaknesses that the Hayters have. The main one being wet grass collection - a definite improvement.

    • Thankyou Colin ... ill check them out

  • Does anyone have a weblink to the aftermarket blades that increase air flow please??

  • Hi Paul

My Hayter was transformed after i had the revs increased and i made some slightly bigger holes in top of the collection bag, also keep the blade sharp.

    • Hi Jonathan. Thanks for the response, What did you use to make the holes and now many did you make ??

      • I heated up a round file, punched 6-8 holes about  an inch down from the bar running along the top of bag.

I used it all last year and the bag hasnt suffered for it.

        • top man, thankyou
