I have a Tanaka THT2530 - that's the single sided high speed 'Trimmer' version.
In my opinion excellent machine - has never missed a beat in three years and I do a LOT of hedge work.
Of course the THT2530 I have is NOT comparable in terms of cutting ability to the Sthil HS81R (I which I also have). The THT being a high speed trimmer is EXTREMELY fast on well trimmed conifer and privet and other 'soft' growth whereas I would be picking up the HS81R to chop through a thick hawthorn reduction or chop pencil thick stems etc.
I can't find a reference to the blade speed on the Tanaka you refer too, but would expect it to be lower than the one I use (as it is noted as being especially fast).
All depends what you are cutting and wheter you can justify having more than one cutter I guess.
I use virtually all Tanaka two stroke stuff and bar a carb issue on one of the older machines have never had an issue.
A quick google shows the Tanaka with two year pro warranty coming out at about £400 and the Stihl at £450 ish.
Hope this helps a bit.
Well impressed I choose that over my stihl hl95 every time..
I have always had problems with Echo, We used to do some product development for them. The engines are highly strung, I have not had much tanaka stuff apart from a blower that was faultless.
Best hedge cutter money can by in my opinion is the Stihl HS 86 R or T. I have 2. Vibration is very good, ballanced machine, i adjusted the carb settings and runs very well. For some reason factory settings for carb make it stall on idle after 1 month of having it.
i got a tanaka tht2520 it has been a fine i had to decoke the exhaust about 6 weeks ago as it would not rev up other than that it been fine
we only use stihl 2 stroke oil
Have two 2520, alternate them for blade shapening etc plus means I have a spare...7 years hard use and still going strong, can be a touch tempremental to start when hot..can take a tug or two, had one exhaust coke up and replaced it (shihl oil) as the dealer said run it at 25-1 which tbh was a bit smokie on still days ! I now run it at about 40-1 but others say 50-1 is fine ?
I would consider another I got the last one on a deal at about 350 quid
