Humane Cat deterrent ideas needed

Customer has bunnies near his house on his patio. A semi feral cat is giving us issues as it is getting to the cages and is pawing at the wire. This is stressing out the bunnies.

I have some ideas, but would like to hear if any of you have done fail proof things regarding deterring a cat in a humane way.

I am sure the cat is not owned by anyone as its quite thin and the fur is somewhat matted. Or its just an old moggy. Its really friendly, if I were not allergic to cats I would have rescued it. It would be easy to catch and send to a local cat rescue. But what if the cat is owned by someone in the neighborhood and we remove it? That would make someone very sad and upset.

  • If loved by someone it should be chipped. A trip to a rescue centre or vet would confirm this.

Turn the rabbits into pies and let the cat roam free:-)

On a serious note you can buy pet deterrent spray to spray at boundary lines. I've used it at home all natural stuff in it garlic and the like and it works quite well
    • I know what you mean. Wilco sells it. I use it to stop foxes and dogs fouling up my drive.

Just worried that the smell might stress the bunnies.

      • These rabbits seem to get stressed very easily..............God knows what they'd be like if they had to live in the outside world...... they'd have some sort of "breakdown"!!   I'm sure with time, they'll get used to the cat and just chill-out knowing they're safe behind the wire mesh...... they really need to toughen-up a bit or they'll just have to be casseroled:)

        • LOL. Well in the wild they would run for it and find their den in the ground where a cat may not follow. But these guys only have the mesh to protect them. So I think it will stress them, which could shorten their life span which is not that long anyway.

          • put a box in the pen it will also offer shade in the summer and protection in the winter

I have never come across anything that will stop cats other than a jack Russell but that may want to get at the rabbits
