  1... you could use wet concrete and cast the required shape, this would mean using timber shuttering and then use a bed of sand and cement to fix the stone treads or external adhesive to stick the stone to the concrete - most expensive way of building steps but would be bomb proof when completed

  2... instead of concrete you could use 7kn concrete blocks to form the required shape and then use a bed of sand and cement to fix the stone treads or external adhesive to stick the stone to the concrete blocks

  3... form the required shape and rise using a 4:1 semi dry mix pushed and carefully compacted in position behind each of the pre cut to the correct height stone risers, so you don't disturb any of the stone risers as your building the next step you could place a concrete block on top of the lower tread, the following day use a bed of sand and cement to fix the stone treads or external adhesive to stick the stone to the concrete

  4... if its only a couple of steps you can construct them all on the same day taking care to keep everything clean and tidy as you can't use any water to clean off any surplus bedding mortar and you should not use acid on stone, a dust sheet laid out on the tread or a strip of hardboard is all you need

  make sure no one walk on any of the steps while they are being constructed including yourself ;)

  Here we built steps using 7kn concrete blocks which make for a very nice 150 riser.

  The block is laid on the back of the slab tread.

  The void behind the step is compacted crushed concrete fill.

  The blocks will be rendered once it is completed.
