How trust worthy these sites are is always debatable! For instance at one point negative reviews wouldn't be published on checkatrader
I did rated people but it's just full of guys who will work for nothing and you have to buy the leads, these are valued on the customers expectation of the job price :/
I think the big issue for me as a sole trader and starting up is the cost £670+ plus VAT, regardless of turnover

Most on the list Gary are not accreditions, they are lead generators. BWC and Which? are probably the only ones that offer a proper company vetting, the rest are as said above, lead generators with prices being dictated by costomers who have no idea of cost and by omb's that carry out work cheaply and poorly.
Brian - not sure that OMB's have the monopoly on cheap and poor work ?

Ouch...... Noticed that Which, the British charity set up to save consumers money will give its CEO a pay package of £819,000 pa - a rise of 139% this year.
The cynic in me asks if that is why it costs so much to be a member or participate in its scheme, said tongue, firmly in cheek...
