  • Hi I have, up in the highlands, but had to grow in a greenhouse.

Best way is in a large pot, i used ones from a planting job 15litre. Or an old dustbin or similar will do they will not like going into the ground too much

Fill pot with 50% sand and 50% peaty soil. Sat in trays, very thirsty for almost 7 months got some great potatos as a result.

These were from shop bought organic potatos, coop in oban!.

If you are going to do them this year get going now.

    Well worth doing

    good luck
  • Thanks Hamish. Just what I needed to get going! I did google for info but not the same as live advice. I'll have to make do woth organic from Asda. Oban sounds so much more romantic. Oh, I was conceived in Oban apparently (or is that too much information!!!) I have a large dustbin sized pot ready to go. last question please, do I place in layers - how deep apart - and how many tubers for this size pot? Thanks again

  • i guess that makes you an honorary highlander

sorry amiss of me but you will need to plant shallow 2 inches down, i laid them flat and it worked well all the tubers went vertical when i pulled up. i also had best results filling pot 3/4 full then adding more on top 2-3 inches after a month. space at 1 per foot, so in one small pot i only had one potato but got about 6 - 9 back.

    hope this helps
  • Hi helen,

  • Thanks Ofer,
Look forward to the image. The large pot I planned wouldl be in a sunny corner I thought to wall around with perspex to shelter from wind. Though, I like the idea of growing in several pots in the green house, especially if they look good too!
