From a friend:

"Anyone know of a decent grounds maintenance contractor in the Manchester area?

I work for People First Housing Association and we’re looking for a grounds maintenance contractor with a strong background in sustainability. Does anybody know of anyone who might be interested? It’s around 80-100 days work per year.

We are a Private Registered Provider (PRP), who:
· Own and manage 275 homes in Hulme, Manchester.
· Manage 28 homes in Bolton, Lancashire for Sensible Housing Co-operative.
· Manage 8 supported housing units in Northwich, Cheshire for Cheshire West and Chester Council; and
· Provide community support and befriending services for other vulnerable people, who are not our tenants.

We are looking to appoint a contractor who can work with us to maintain and improve the open space around our properties sustainably, effectively and efficiently at a reasonable cost.

The level of work will vary throughout the year. Last year, our gardener spent around 80 full working days carrying out the work outlined below. We would expect the successful bidder to visit our schemes regularly and work with us to ensure that:

· Our grassed areas are allowed to flourish without becoming overgrown (or bare) or dominated by invasive species;
· Our trees, shrubs and other plants are encouraged to grow sustainably without causing damage to our buildings, walls or paved surfaces;
· Our paved areas remain free from trip and/or slip hazards (e.g. moss, dead leaves, grass cuttings or icy patches);
· Our grounds remain tidy and free from unwanted objects, dog dirt, other toxins and debris that might encourage vermin;
· Our boundaries (fences, gates, bushes, creepers) are kept in good order;
· Our drains remain free-flowing to prevent flooding or pooling;
· A variety of wildlife is encouraged into nearby parks and our garden areas; and
· Our tenants are encouraged take an active role in improving their local environment, growing food, composting and recycling.

Feel free to share with appropriate groups!"
