Honda 18" self propelled Izy..

Now I have loads of experience with roller mowers however I have never owned a 4 wheeled mower, my question is this, I know these Izy's are pretty good mowers for build quality, but what is the cut quality like on them? I am thinking of getting one as back up for when my spare mower breaks if ever, but will probably use it on a few smaller jobs I have as well, but the cut quality on these smaller jobs still needs to be reasonable, I don't want to leave a naff finish on any of my lawns, also are the Izy good on collection???Cheers

Thank you for the tip ref blades...:-)
    • Do you find R the self propelled speed slow?
  • Is it the one with the mulching plug and twin blades you're looking at? I started up this year and this was the only brand new mower I bought. I had my own small push John Deere and bought a second hand etesia pro46 and a second hand honda hrb423 for stripes (which I only really use on one garden). The new one is my least favourite, I kept having problems starting it up between emptying the bag and it just didn't sound right. I took it back to the dealers and they said that they sorted it but I haven't really used it since other than on my lawn. I also found it difficult to get a nice height on some lawns. I load up with the John Deere and the Etesia most days, and the John Deere is just as good as the etesia for collecting wet grass in my opinion so if there was a John deere wheeled mower in the same price range I would opt for that next time

I use 18 inch push model izy on small stuff never misses a beat it's light and no drive means no broken drive!!
Finish is not bad as good as any 4 wheel mower I've used.
Not brilliant pickup in the wet. But for £365 new they are great!!
Out of interest Harry what roller mower do you use? Looking at getting a new one for next year. Thanks Richard

Atm I'm using a Honda 21"pro, I also have 2 hayter 48 pro's but at this time of year they are useless because of the wet, I am in the process of getting hold of a 21 " Viking roller mower to give a try, however my plan for next season I think will be all Honda , Honda 19"roller mower with the 18"izy back up, the older I get the less I want to lug around heavy mowers...

I take the small izy out nearly everyday when I'm cutting grass at 30kg it's dead easy to lift into pickup bed!! I like it better than the other mowers I have for that reason, it's easy to push and no breakdowns! I have a17 inch push izy that is 6 years old now and it only failed to start once and fresh oil and plug and air filter and it was back to brilliant again

I have two mowers from the izy range, a HRS536 and a HRG536 (both 21"). The hrg was given to me by a customer. Quality of finish is fine with both of them but definitely best when using the single blade with no vents - the increased up draft lifts the grass to the blade better. Those honda twin mulching blades are pretty rubbish for grass collection in the wet. Engine rev increase is a must on these mowers.

Both my izy mowers have had the gearbox and drive belt removed turning them into push mowers. The izy range are painfully slow even with the engine speed increased. Removing those parts not only makes them even lighter but the engine seemed to have more cutting power without the drive belt on. Only other option would be to play about with pulley sizes like the speed up kits for etesia's.

I would say that for the money izy mowers are deserved of consideration.

    • I have the same issue self propelled speed is so slow how do I lift the revs? I think there still heavy to be just push though?

I need to check which blade I've got.

Depends which one you have. If it's new then you have to twist the nut holding the spring on the side of the engine hard to explain! Older ones are easy just a screw on the side tighter means more revs looser means less!! Will try and find a picture for you. Don't wind them too high though or I may not last long a rev meter would be useful !!
