We've just had a very long thread on here about a customer taking an artificial grass installer to task over an alleged poor installation - so I would err towards if you're not an expert in this then sub it out to someone who is.
Hi Ant, I've promoted that other thread back to the top for you too look at...
Surely if you've been in business since 1984, you would know how much to charge...
installing on top of wood that is prone to rotting / warping , can't be a long term solution for installing artificial grass (not that we would contemplate this sort of work) but I'd be walking away
maintaining a professional image and only doing work, which is best practice is important in long established biz, do you agree?
We have been in business since 84, but never got involved with artificial grass. In fact, I inherited the business in 98. There are only two jobs involving that, that we have ever done. Both under 5sq metres, and both part of other jobs. We have never quoted individually for these type of jobs nor have we ever taken any on. However it is a field of work we would like to get into as it seems quite popular around here.
I agree with what you said about installing over wood, but our suppliers said it can be done, and the client also said it can be done. Me however, well I'm just not sure. I would say it can be done, if the decking is up to standard. But it is an area of work I am interested in.
Slightly off topic but why is that all the artificial lawns I've seen just look totally artificial and nothing like real grass? Even an expensive installation opposite me, the green wasn't right, you could see slight lines running along it and it was just too "uniform". Is there any out there that actually could pass off as grass?........... a few plastic weeds and a bit of clover might help!
We went through a period about 2 years ago where we had quite a few enquiries for artificial grass (to which we always replied we only deal with real grass thankyou!). Seems to have gone quiet recently.
Personally, I wouldn't go anywhere near. However, if I were interested, I'd get myself on a few of the free courses offered by suppliers before I did anything.
Having spoken to some customers whom have had people in to quote for artificial installs but didn't go ahead, there seems to be great variations in price and quality and quite a few cowboy chancers.
So opportunities are there for well trained professional contractors that will fairly price jobs - as always.
