Hedging Platforms

I'm looking for a hedging platform with adjustable height legs - is there such a beast?

I need to top a row of hawthorne tress - started off as a hedge. 'Hedge' is about 15ft tall and 5ft wants to come off that, the issue is that the space in front of the hedge is split level. The difference in levels is about 2 1/2 ft, so the front legs of the platform will be closest to the hedge on higher ground, the rear legs behind on the lower ground.

I have a Henchman tripod ladder which does a great job on slopes, but not practical on this job as I will be using a chainsaw and pruning saw.

I have a henchman platform. Big red we call it. Four legs, 10 foot ish when extended, stable, strong, safe. Heavy but manageable.
  • Is that the wheeled one Andy?

Looking on the Henchman website I can see the wheeled variety, with the corner stabilising feet, but not with 4 legs.

Have to admit I m not sure which model it is. It's about 10 years old but sounds like in design the hedge master classic discussed later in this thread but a henchman.
  • I use a Hedgemaster Classic which has four adjustable feet and a nice big square platform that feels safe. It's big, a bit heavy to shift about and the feet adjustment is sometimes a bit of a fiddle. But overall it has got me through plenty of jobs safely and quickly enough. I've found that working on the square platform  saves a good bit of strength and energy over a day's work. The manufacturer has started to replace the foot brackets with aluminium ones as the older plastic ones tended to shatter under impact.

I've never used a chainsaw with mine, but a couple of tree surgeons I work with now and then quite happily use chainsaws with the platform set around the 6' mark.

  • Thanks for the info.

My original idea was a longer platform, a little bit like a scaffolding stage, but looking at those 4 legged platforms, they will do the job.

It´s a bit of an expense, in the long run it will pay off.

It´s good to know the chainsaw guys use them too, gives me confidence in their safety.
