Go over them with a mulch mower two or three times and there wont be anything to get rid of.
I don't even use a Mulch mower................ just the usual Kaaz 21" roller mower. The cuttings get vastly reduced in volume making disposal really easy......... can usually get the lot in a wheelie bin. I always strim along the base of the hedge first and then anything the mower doesn't pick up gets blown back under the hedge, never to be seen again.
On grass, rake up most of it into dumpy bags, and then go over with mower. On anything horrible and annoying like pebbles, I use a tarp. Some gardens are just awkward though, and whatever you do it's a PITA.
Plants, growing through gravel, under the hedge, grrrr. Most of it gets blown under the hedge :P
Does running mowers (unless commercial/heavy duty) over hedge cuttings not affect the service life etc or damage them ? Maybe if it's just left over leaves it would be ok.....?
To be honest I do use my old crappy rough mower for that particular job :) I wouldn't advise using a nice shiny new machine.

Bulldog do a rake with rubber fingers spaced closely together.These are brilliant for clearing up trimmings along borders and graveled areas.
