Hedge repairs

EveningI have a new site with a privet hedge running around the perimeter. Basically there are gaps where people are walking through. My client has asked for these to be filled and a temp fence to be installed to stop people walking through. I thought about 13mm steel fencing pins with orange plastic fence. I am concerned this will not stop them though!Another suggestions??

  • Any problems with barbed wire? It would have to face inwards obviously & much cheaper. Could remove it when replacement hedge has established.

  • I did think some posts with wire run between. Then they wll only go round instead!

If you use posts and wire ensure you put some high vis streamers on the wire even if just short term so no one injures themselves and so on, must cover your back...:-)
  • Chestnut paling held up with road pins works well. More attractively rustic than wire too.
  • How about some of that Heather screening? Once the hedge grows up it would vanish inside the hedge and just look like part of the hedge.

Only thing I found to ever work is something with great big thorns on it.

  • I will be chatting to the client tomorrow. But it is looking like a couple of round posts driven in and then wire run around. Not easy to climb and I can remove the wire as the hedge grows
