Hi all,

The subject title pretty much summaries where I am at but just wanted any first hand experience of what I'm contemplating.

I'm running a SWB Transit van with 8x4 trailer when required, increasing we are doing more hedge cutting, mowing and bigger jobs and less and less gardening. This alongside contract maintenance work is the direction I want to take the business, the regular all year round clients we work for in the most part have electric gates. From March-December we operate as a 2 man team and 3 on bigger jobs. I'm looking to make the handling of waste easy, especially when it comes to chipping where we currently chip into bags then have to load them and the CS100 into the van or trailer. My thoughts are all power tools could be locked away in the crew cab with just mowers, platfroms etc in the back, I'm just a bit concerned over loading mowers on and off.

Has anyone gone for this and found it to be a real hassle or advantageous, or visa versa switched from tipper to panel van?

Thanks in advance!

I did this last season... exactly this from panel van to crew cab tipper. Although I put the mower in the back where the crew cab  seating was with tools above...

Bed too high to load machines on an off on what I had (Citroen Relay). Too high to climb up and down and ramps had to be very long to load ride on etc.

I ran this set up in conjunction with a truck loading towed chipper for handling hedge etc - I have now sold the truck and the shredder due to changes in the direction of the business.

  • We do Landscaping rather than maintenance but we run a crew cab tipper. It would definitely make you waste handling easier. Also if the rear was racked properly you could keep most things in the back safe and dry, I reckon for the bed you would have to keep the strimmer, mowers and other large bits. We also run a swb transit but thats only really for carrying tools and the odd bit of material.

    This is my van.
