The government has recently introduced a grant scheme for small businesses (under 50 employees) to get some strategic business advice in areas such as:

- finance and cash flow
- recruiting and developing staff
- improving leadership and management skills
- marketing
- attracting and keeping customers
- making the most of digital technology

Applicants to the scheme are selected at random to receive the £2000 grant toward this strategic advice, and are asked to match the government input to receive advice from some private sector suppliers. The aim is to help smaller businesses grow!

You can apply for the scheme here: https://www.gov.uk/apply-growth-vouchers

Has anyone applied for the scheme?

I'd prefer £2k to spend towards any of those bullet points than having to spend another 2k to get advice on them.

  • Agreed. The main winners are going to be the consultants I think.

Fair point, it is quite a bit of 'spare cash' to find for a smaller business.

Hopefully it will be useful to a few people though! :)

Is there a danger of missing the point here? The grant is funds matched UPTO 2k.

There is nothing to stop anyone identifying a business skills need for a lesser amount.

I took advantage of a previous scheme years ago and had some great mentoring that I believe helped me and this business grow.

As with most opportunities to grow and improve, it's you as the person that has to decide if it is relevant.

Finally, go search this topic and older similar posts on LJN. Much exists....
