Going Green(er)

I am interested in whether any Juicers have any experience in becoming greener.  I am considering having my van converted to bio diesel and whether there might be some sort of grant available for making my operation more eco-friendly?  Since all my waste is recycled at the composting centre I wonder if such green flag waving might make me eligible for some kind of government help?

  • Firstly I'd personally check the cost effectiveness of this option? If it works out, go for it, otherwise I'd be wary (personally that is - it is a personal choice).
You could try plugging composting on site, mulching mowers, or even look at the pellenc battery power tools?
  • I ran my van on Bio diesel for the first 1.5 years it was convenient as they make it just round the corner from me and have it on pump...I didn't convert it as it's old school non turbo, I had a couple of glow plugs snap off in the head whilst servicing and that made cold start ups with the bio a bit of a pain especially as I hadn't got a diesel start up tank or preheater fitted so went back to normal diesel...I will however with my next van either convert to gass or bio as it is cheaper in the long run and the bio is probably the better/greener option. Your van will be about 10% down on power, smell like burnt chips and smoke a bit from time to time but you get used to it LOL, I advertised the fact in my blurb and had it written on the side of my van too, most of my clients liked the idea and seemed interested in it too, I think it didn't put anyone off, in fact the reverse, and added to my green credentials.

Buying premade bio works out about 20% cheaper than normal stuff, if you make your own I believe you get up to 12K miles worth tax free from our glorious rulers ;-)
