I have! In an absent minded moment I put the selective weedkiller into my knapsack before the water and found out a week later that for the first few 'pumps' it wasn't very 'selective' and after that it hardly worked at all!

Ha, ha, yup, when I first started and had a cheap spreader, I misjudged on one customer's lawn and (after applying both directions) ended up with a chess board! Luckily they were very understanding and ten years later still let me treat their lawn :-)
