It seems perfectly reasonable to me, we're trying to get landscapers to quote for a design we've done near Kirkbymoorside, 'oop North
we're giving it out on a plate, but can we get anyone to answer the phone, return a call...
Hello Richard
There are going to be lots of garden designers out there looking for reliable contractors to build their designs. Best thing to do is pick up the phone and start calling some of the local ones. You could also send out emails but they are often ignored. My advice would be to devote a couple of hours a week to getting on the phone and introducing yourself to garden designers. It could be slow to start with but you will get some work eventually and often once you have done one project there is the likelihood of more work in the future

I'd agree with Steve, this a great approach. As designers, we may get asked to look at work at doesn't warrant 'design' but just needs a capable landscaper.
Clearly we would want to suggest landscapers who are reliable & competent but also capable of clear communication. I've often tried to initiate conversations either by email, facebook or even in the street, I rarely get a good impression or indeed any response at all.
First impressions are important and someone who makes 'the effort' is more likely to be remembered.
I can't tell you many times someone has said, I don't have business cards, I haven't got them with me or I've run out....
Not easy to pass their name on, is it?
Always carry a business card. Sounds obvious but so many people forget or just dont bother. Great bit of advice Geoffrey
