Garden design: Recommended reading?

I'm off work for what looks like a while, sadly, with an injury. So I wanted to do something with my free time and brush up on some skills.

What would you all recommend to read regarding garden design? Local courses I've heard so many bad things about, so just looking to do some reading for now.

Cheers!

  • Many years back, I wanted to move on from just the usual 'turfing and crazy paving', which is about all most landscapers did at the time.  I looked into courses, but as we had a young family, I needed to work solidly and couldn't afford the fees. So how could I lift us ahead of the rest? I just bought books, mainly from second hand shops and simply grabbed ideas from them.  The most useful author I found was John Brookes, I found his work inspirational and while I would not pretend to be a qualified designer, our work stood out in our area for many years and 2016 is our 40th anniversary in the business.

  • Hi Ben,
Making the modern garden by Christopher Bradley Hole..if you wanna get into the soul of it, and understand how Architects think n feel then ,You could do worse !
  • Rosemary Alexander's Garden Design Workbook is useful
