I am still working on a garden which was originally commissioned in 2006... (client and I both got stranded in heavy snow Winter 2005 and got talking while waiting in a pub!) listed building, much to-ing and fro-ing with architect, planners etc, and garden implementation tied in with very complex building works on house. Hope to get final area planted this Autumn!
What a great way to meet a client Rose, plenty of time to talk garden improvements over a drink or two while waiting to be rescued.....
6 years is impressive, you will miss them when you’ve finished the garden, expect you’ve got to know them pretty well by now. I’ve had jobs held up by planning issues, building works too. Not sure why the school garden has taken so long, probably due to the length of time it’s taken to obtain funds for the project. Looking forward to seeing it completed anyway.
It was certainly a unique start! We didn't even talk gardens at the time, it was more about how to get ourselves home and in the end we put on high vis jackets I had with me and set off together walking through the snow in a sort of blitz spirit. The great job that came out of it was a real silver lining - up until then I had just been feeling grumpy about getting home so late after a day spent freelancing elsewhere!
My impression of anything community related like schools projects is they can get really bogged down in consultations and you need patience and perseverance. It will be nice for you to see your garden built as you had probably thought it would never come to anything after 3 years!
