Friday evening thoughts

Hi all,Just going thru some thoughts here. Do people think it's ok to have a maintenance price for jobs & a clear out cost (once off jungle busters jobs) for other jobs. The clear outs are defo harder on tools & the heart rate is higher for sure throughout the day.Any thoughts?PS at present my prices are the same for both maintenance & clear outsCheers,Darragh

    Absolutely.

The charging rate you use (whether to price a hourly rate job or a fixed price job) should reflect the effort, difficulty and machinery used.

Recovering your costs are key otherwise for some jobs you'll be too cheap and on others too dear.

I have a 3 by 3 pricing matrix (happy to discuss more on the BOG) that is my first port of call when quoting.

    • Cheers for reply Gary

I'D really appreciate that on the Bog if you didn't mind
    • I'd love to see that too, any help with pricing is much appreciated.

  • I look at job no roughly how long its going to take and how much waste ive got to take away. Round here its £30ptonne. Divide that by hours to do job petrol used driving to recyling yard, and come to a price
  • I'd guess you're doing everything on an hourly rate............. If it's a one-off that you're never going back to, definitely charge at a significantly higher price giving a price to complete the whole job rather than an hourly rate.............If you're going to be maintaining it in the future, I just keep it at the normal maintenance rate and accept the fact it's going to be a bit hard for the first visit or so.

  • Surely with 'one-off clear outs' you have to be fair to your customer (and yourself) by giving them a 'job complete' price before you start. There is nothing worse than completing a job and having the customer query the bill. It may well be a fair price, but it does your reputation no good at all.

I would never take anyone on at an hourly rate.

    • Indeed. Also be wary of customers who say they will employ you for the year on a monthly basis, but they want some extra tidying up done in the first few months...

I go as far as to have my contracts for 8 months only, and if they want anything done in the winter they can pay extra. Too easy to cancel your services in the winter when they see you don't need to do nearly as much.

  • I charge more for clear outs. But I try to avoid them if I can.

  • Definately.

I have a 1/2 day (2 people) and full day 2 people for these sort of large jobs, even if its a large days work.

    £320 - £380 - 2 people - 1 day inc refuse

    £150 - £200 - 2 People - 1/2 day, inc refuse

    Hope this helps

    Andrew
