I allways use screws myself
I usually screw the panels to the posts with 100mm exterior wood screws.
Drill a pilot hole and screw 3 decking screws to each strip of fence batten that's the best method.
screws. much more secure than the clips (waste of time in my humble opinion, just a money maker for wickes etc) and make it easy to remove a panel at a later date. also screws both sides of the panel
As others have said screw straight through the side of the panel into the post. No need for clips. You don't even need to drill a pilot hole if you use these screws... http://www.toolstation.com/shop/Screws+Fixings/Torx+Fast/TorxFast+M...
Surely the batten used on most standard fence panels is barely able to accomodate a screw, dont they start to split at the first sign of stress?
I agree Anthony, a screw doesn't do it for me when it comes to fitting fence panels to posts. Then again, nor do those 'orrible Wickes clips.
I use 41mm U-Clips, either 3 or 4 per 6ft panel edge depending on the site exposure.
Cheers, Eugene
screw 2x2's into the posts, then screw panels onto that - same for the gravel boards, tend to pre drill everything now. allows for a clean removal years later if need be compared to clips
