It's magnificent but is spreading over a large area of the front garden and in summer seems all consuming to the client. I did lightly prune it in summer, but they are asking for a much more drastic prune. Can experts in tree pruning, and especially this type of acer which I know don't normally get heavily pruned let me know how best to tackle it? When it's in full leaf it's a mat of green but I don't know how easy it would be to remove areas of growth to create the space between branches that I know is a desirable shape in a Japanese acer. I just envisage it'll be really tricky and quite hard to achieve a good result.

My current instinct is to prune to joints to reduce the width by some margin and try and take off a little of the height but more than that is daunting. I know about the rule of thirds so wouldn't be thinking of taking so much off it looks pollarded like a London plane. I know this approach could ruin the shape. The framework is old and complex and whilst the plant seems healthy overall, every year there's some inevitable die back on some branches. I don't want to make this worse which is why I know about pruning to joints.

Any other advice much appreciated, and if possible photographic examples of your own work if it'll help me! I have to start/do this job on Monday 28th Nov

Thanks

Laurel. Half plant has died back.https://landscapejuicenetwork.com/forum/topics/laurel-half-plant-has-died-back2022-06-24T15:57:02.000Z2022-06-24T15:57:02.000ZTony @SMhttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profil/TonyHarrold

Good day All. I have a regulat fortnightly maintenance customer with a decent sized garden and a mature 25+ foot laurel as the first part of his border with a neighbour. This shrub was previously allowed to shoot upwards allowing it to become long, sparseand lank. I suggested reducing it a bit at a time. Two years ago I reduced the back (closest to the neighbours fence) of the plant by cutting the uprights down to about 12 feet. I left the front part for privacy while expecting the back to bush out and grow again. I am now noticing the entire back parts of the plant are leafless spears of wood. The leaf loss is total at the rear. The front isnt great but is nowhere near as bad and I believe will be fine with regular watering. Any ideas what may have caused this and how to encourage growth? I am tempted to reduce the affected stems to just below fence height and hope they kickstart some leaf stems. Meanwhile at the front I am thinking of cutting back alternative stems. The customer understandably wants his privacy back. I have previously never had an issue with reducing laurel -even drastically- and not seen anything like this.

What's this tree?https://landscapejuicenetwork.com/forum/topics/what-is-this-tree2022-02-10T14:43:40.000Z2022-02-10T14:43:40.000ZAdam Woodshttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profil/honestservices

We are pruning an orchard....first time it's been pruned for 5 years at least.
At the beginning of this year a man died from neck wounds after trying to prune a tree with a chainsaw and there are 300 serious chainsaw accidents a year in France – with one of three of them involving serious leg injury.

The regulation incites companies and workers to learn proper safety procedures in chainsaw use and get a licence as is already the case in Belgium, Italy and Luxembourg. Companies in many other countries including the UK ban chainsaw work unless the worker has done training.

Brought into law on December 5, the law encourages training in one of the 11 certified training centres in France and a day of training will average about €200.
