I'll follow this as thinking of getting an Etesia Duocutt 53.
I asked about them today when I was in a local dealership. The owner didn't have much to say on them really except that they made the machines longer and less maneuverable. This is what puts me off buying an Etesia.I'm sure it's been asked before but why don't they just bring out a dedicated roller mower?
Largely due to the fact Etesia is a European manufacturer and the requirement for stripes is somewhat very British. We only represent a small, but growing market for them. Also, their main market is commercial hence they build robust 4W mowers to deal with it.
Etesia's official roller solution is a UK designed kit but not sure how it makes the machine longer tho ?
The majority of roller mowers are compromised by having a restricted throat and that is why the old Hayter 56's were so much loved due to their full width throats.
I think this is one for Harry the Roller...he made one himself. Try the search function and take a look if he doesn't reply.
A legend in his own lifetime :0) - here it is .....
Yeah I read that and was very impressed by Harry's ingenuity! I have to say though that that's not really me, i'm pretty useless at all things mechanical which is why I have an excellent mechanic. If i'm honest I've actually been very disappointed with my Etesia. It was incredibly slow without the speed up kit. I bought one after being told by an Etesia staff member that it would fit my mower, but it did not without some serious modification to my mower. Also it turned out that a huge spring was missing which meant that height adjustment was incredibly difficult (you can see me querying why it was so hard on one of the old forum posts). All of those things wouldn't matter to me though if the finish was good and I have to say in my experience it is not. I'm very surprised as they get so much love on this site, which was why I bought one, but at this point I have to say that I feel that it was a mistake and an expensive one at that.
Thanks Harry, appreciate it. I've forwarded your home made roller forum post to my mechanic for him to peruse!! We'll see how it goes
Or, was it the Dealer's level of service ?
If those issues were from new, I'd be banging on the dealers door to fix ?
I'm not 100% sure Gary, but I know that part of the underside of the mower had to be cut off for it to fit and a different sized belt purchased separately too. Works now and is much quicker. The spring that assisted raising the blade level had not been on since new but you can't prove that so that coupled with the fact that the dealer is so far a way meant I just decided to take it on the chin. None of that would bother me too much, but the poor finish is the issue. I'll work on it and see what happens but am seriously considering selling it and I only got it late last year. Thanks for your replies
