employing staff

Does anyone else have the same problem as me trying to employ people?I have found the few people i can attract to an interview are not actually interested in the work.In my experience staff i have employed have had no work ethic, they actually feel they are owed a job as a right, as opposed to showing an employer what they can bring to the company.

  • I'm having the same problem, after setting up myself last year doing it all, I'm trying to find somebody willing to do the job, had a guy last who worked in council builders merchants, never laid a slab, or done a hard days graft. But was telling me how I should give him a chance, sometimes 2 or 3 messages a night, I don't want somebody who I need to constantly show or watch what they're doing as that defeats the point of having somebody out. Obviously everybody has to learn, just I'm not in the position to teach somebody and get through the work swell.
  • I'm a two man operation only so the 'other' worker has to be totally dependable and carry the same standards of work as I look to do.

I recruited the other way, I looked for someone with the personal qualities required who I got to know away from a work environment, then I offered him a role. My view is that we can all be taught anything technical, after all that's how we all learned, but attitude, work ethic dependability etc. are qualities that are paramount in any recruitment and these qualities don't necessarily come on a certificate or reference.
