Email problem

I've never had email notification of new posts, and have it turned off in my settings.

I'm getting numerous emails about replies to threads today for the first time ever. I've tried the "stop following this thread" link, but that hasn't worked. I've also re-set the email to "I don't want any emails" but they are still coming through.

Is it just me? I can just block the address to stop them but I don't want LJN to have a spam report against it.

Thanks

Paul - No, it's been happening since yesterday.

I'm looking into it as much as I can and will liaise with Phil when he's back, but wonder if Ning have made some form of upgrade in last 24 hours.

    • Thanks, Gary. Might be worth a notice in the meantime as if people get fed up and block email notifications it can create problems as the address gets seen as a spam site.

If people are aware it's a temporary glitch they won't use the "block sender" option.

    • Any news on this yet?

Driving me mad having the PC, phone and tablet all getting so many notifications!

Sorry Paul...I did  discuss this with Gary.

I've not noticed an issue with emails myself.

Have you tried un-clicking all email boxes in your profile and then saving?

  • PRO

If you change your email settings and then refresh the page, you'll notice it doesn't save the changes.

It does on mine. Have you saved/updated the changes at the bottom before your refresh ?

    Hi Paul

This is what Ning sent me last night:

When someone comments or replies to content it is expected that they will automatically be set to "following" that feature. If you or your members would prefer not to follow that feature or page, you can manually opt out by clicking on that "following" button that appears. That will stop you from receiving notifications on all new posts on that page. Keep in mind that if you choose to unfollow a discussion then post another comment, you will be set to following it again.

The expected functionality is that once someone comments, they are opting into the conversation. For this reason, you will be following it. There was previously a bug with this functionality that was not automatically setting everyone to "following" after they left a comment, and this bug has since been resolved which is why it may seem like a new occurrence on your network.

To recap, members may notice that they are automatically"following" content after they participate. If they would not like to receive all of those email notifications, please advise them to make sure to "unfollow" after they publish their comment/response. Should they comment/respond again, they will need to unfollow to continue to avoid the notifications.

So they won't be doing anything about it then? Having to manually unfollow a conversation after every comment is a bit of a pain seeing as I've never had to do that on any other forum.

    • That's a bizarre function, and it's new. Surely they could remove it if they added it as a new feature?

As I said, my worry is that people will get fed up and just block the LJN emails as spam. This has implications for the email address if too many people do so.

I'm getting all the emails on three devices, so it's an awful lot of deleting!
