About the Landscape Juice Network

Founded in 2008. The Landscape Juice Network (LJN) is the largest and fastest growing professional landscaping and horticultural association in the United Kingdom.

LJN's professional business forum is unrivalled and open to anyone within within the UK landscape industry

LJN's Business Objectives Group (BOG) is for any Pro serious about building their business.

For the researching visitor there's a wealth of landscaping ideas, garden design ideas, lawn advice tips and advice about garden maintenance.

There have been many items regarding the grass collection capabilities of mowers (especially roller mowers) in wet conditions.  We currently run 2 x Hayter 48's and 1 x Hayter 56 for lawn maintenance, but as has been mentioned many times on here, the later models are just not very efficient in the wet.

I have just been into my local dealer and looked over the Atco Liner 22SH as a possible alternative for our next purchase.  Atco are looking to bite into Hayter's almost dominance of this market and apparently one of the big things they have worked on is wet grass collection.  They have come up with a 'twinclip' system to double-cut the blades of grass, a fan to create more 'suck/blow' and eased the path to the collection bag.  The body is galvanised steel and aluminium, with a fluid type drive from a Honda Engine.

OK so that's the selling done......................so who's got one and what is it like?

Interesting. Having just used my hayter to cut wet grass I am VERY interested in anything that's better. Although my hayter gives IMHO the best finish it is shocking at collecting wet grass.

Hayter! are you paying attention fix this!!'

For wet collection and stripes you will not beat a Viking MB655VR, it can be chucking it down and you can cut a lawn filling the grass box to the brim, people talk about bad drive system but it's no worse than a Honda gearbox system, and a lot cheaper to fix, you will not beat it, guaranteed.....;-)
    • My new VIking MB650VM fills great in the wet. I like the variable drive, but we'll see how long it lasts....

The Kaaz design (lawnflite pro etc) is one of the best for collecting in the wet.

    • I absolutely agree, it will collect long , wet, grass, scarifying debris , pretty much anything in any weather with a grass box that is super easy to empty as it has a hinged lid. I have 4 of them on rotation, usually at least 1 in the Menders as the drive system is fragile. However it's very cheap to repair and such a light easy machine to use.

But getting back to thread, sorry Colin I've never used one of these mowers mate...

Seems like all the new GGP mowers have this twin clip blade. Looks interesting but probably won't be the cure all to solve lifting the grass over the big roller

  • Weibang pro roller excellent it doesnt drop a blade of grass, and it lasts unlike a viking, which is excellent but its not a pro mower and will costs you £££s in labour costs if you are using more than 20hrs a week

Define "pro" mower, if it's warranty for pro user then the Viking MB655VR comes with a 1 year warranty, not as good as the Weibang for sure but it equals all the pro mower warranties out there, I've never understood why a Hayter 48 pro is classed as a pro machine, yes it's build quality is great, but it's wet collection is extremely poor, which means (in this country at least) it's useless as a pro grade mower, great that it lasts but what's the point in having a mower that lasts if it doesn't hold up in day to day use??? :-)

      • You have the 4 wheel viking can't comment on them.my experience are with the roller version which in my opinion are not worth anywhere near the money. Mine was in and out workshop more times than it was on the job. Had massive arguments with viking who said that it's not a pro mower, gave up and scrapped it. In one season 2 new roller kits, new engine under warranty 3 drive cables.lost it's drive in the end and it was only 9 months old.
  • Looks as though I'll have to be the guinea pig!
