alright guys n girls,

recently got hold of a ride on mower so i am looking for more work for it. so my question is would you stick with domestic jobs or would you try and get hold of some commercial contracts? and how would you go about getting the contracts?

cheers Luke.

It really depends what mower it is to what to go for with it?
With that it will be easier to help
    • Ive got a Massey Ferguson 2107 27" cutting deck I think it is it's nothing massive the website says it would be ideal for mowing half an acre but don't see how they base that really! I am just starting out I'm 19 so it's quite a step for me having this haha just need a bit more work for it I've got some domestics I can do with it. Cheers!

They base it on the fact it's only a 27inch deck.
Stick with domestic for it it won't manage much commercial work mainly because it's not much bigger than a walk behind(or smaller).
But it will be useful in the smaller of the bigger private stuff if that makes sense!
        • Yeah I get you suppose it's only fast because it can go faster than I can walk haha! Thanks il save up for a bigger machine!
  • As you are just starting out Luke, don't restrict yourself to one or the other. You will be surprised how private work can lead to commercial and vice versa.  Your private customers belong to a 'family tree' of friends and relations and hopefully, you will be recommended to them - providing you do a good job!  Some will also have businesses of their own who may need your services.........and so it goes on!

    • Yes that is very true. I take work as it comes if it's out of my comfort zone size wise or I don't think I can do it up to a high enough standard I won't take it on because at the end of it the thing you need the most is the reputation so I'm not stupid to take on work I dont feel 100% up to. Expecially at my age it's a bit harder because people know I'm that bit less experienced than others. First starting out is a big gamble isn't it really take risks they either pay of or you loose but il learn from every mistake and hopefully one day become a well established firm.:)
      • Good luck Luke.

Keep coming on here and you may not make as many mistakes as I did when I first started!
        • Thanks guys! Yeah it's a very good site this is! I learn better from people like yourself that's been in my position. have you got anyone working for you?
