  • Hi Gavin, I am in Sports Turf..........Footie/Rugby/Cricket and All Weather............have just taken on a Bowles Green........Seems very very different!!!!

    • prepare for a barage of pm's haha

  • I am coming at it as an employee of a company who look after them............you will find that most Bowles Greens are owned by local councils and tendered out on contracts. Thats not to say that the club is pleased with the service or the contractor wants to do them. They are normally included in a overal grounds maintenance contract.

    • In my area it's mainly private clubs, there is only 1 club in my local area that are council owned but there are quite a few contractors to battle against

How often are you on green apart from cutting?
  • im interested in this as the bowls greens by mine are in shocking clip and it just looks to me like they're throwing lawn sand on it constantly

    • seems to be decent returns to be honest

the club my grandad and i were memebers of pay a lot of money for very very little in return

  • Not that much.............Spring Renovations/Autumn Renovations.........Mow 3 x a week.........Veti Cut every 6 Weeks........Worm Treatments and weed and feed as you see fit. Renovations as with all Sport Surfaces really are key to the success of the Green. However greeness is not king as you may think............

Ben you hit the nail on the head, green isn't always better :)

Plus like any turf, the more aeration the better.

      • Not necessarily, too much aeration can bring its own problems aswell...

Of course mate it's easy to get turf looking green but not as easy for it to be a healthy green!

Sounds as if it's not too much work to keep a green in tip top condition then, ideal from a contractor point of view!

        Thanks mate
