Decent Hedge Cutting Ladders Help!

Hello,

This is my first post, so hello to everyone and I look forward to getting to know you all :)

I am after some advice, past/present experience on a decent set of hedge cutting ladders, I have done some research and although a lot of people recommend Henchman I have also seen reviews saying that they can be very slow to work with!

I would really appreciate any feedback on different types/makes of ladders out there.

Many thanks

Daniel

  • There is no one set of ladders, i use these 90% of the time

Or a descent set of 3 rung commercial ladders.

    Or 12 rung step ladders.

    Its all a compromise really.

I bought a set of tripod ladders last year, couldn't manage without them now, each foot is adjustable so you can use them on slopes ect. They give me a safe working height of up to 12 feet, more that enough for most hedges. You can pick them up with one hand and move them about easily.

    • Hi Robbie,
the tripod ladders do seem to be very popular, do you have a link to the brand you purchased, any down sides etc..
      Thanks

Two main brands of tripods on sale in the UK, Henchman and Workware , the Henchman are nice because they are designed with a platform step at the top, it's double the depth of the rest of the steps on the ladder for a good solid base to work from...
        • Thanks Harry,
I have read some reviews claiming that the henchman are a little awkward when you have to keep moving them, do you have any experience with using henchman??
          Cheers

I own a Henchman 8ft , they are super light, not awkward at all to move about compared to other ladders I've used, and very stable as long as you don't try to over reach, they will topple over if you do, if I could only own one ladder though for hedge cutting I'd get a Hailo profi 2x9 rung 1x8 rung combi ladder, gives you a lot more flexibility than just a tripod ladder...
            • Thanks Harry,
I will check out the Hailo, it's quite a large investment so I want to try and get it right first time :)

Not light and quite bulky, but they are solid and the wide base lets you work on uneven ground. They are good because you can work on each rung depending on the height you need to work at. You can also straddle the top for a working height of 10ft. Around £200. Just double checked and they are quite a bit dearer then when I bought them.
  • I use a tripod ladder one of the best investments you will make for safety http://www.northernarbsupplies.co.uk/434-tripod-ladders

    • Hi David,
Thanks for the info, the link you posted doesn't seem to return a result of ladders?
Is there a make that you use and would recommend?

      Dan
