Cordless long reach hedge trimmer

I already have the Sthil battery and charger for my cordless strimmer so will be sticking with Sthil for a long reach hedge trimmer. Does anyone have experience of using the HLA65 and HLA85? I can only have one and the 85 seems the obvious choice to me but some of the pros and cons of these machines would be much appreciated. Thanks Jim.

I've just been looking at these today! I think I might take a gamble and buy the 85!
I tried them for weight and with the ap300 battery the 85 seemed better balanced at least when at its shortest.
I'm trying to arrange a demo model to try.
  • I use my combi Km130r long reach hedgecutter with extensions and as a strimmer too & pole pruner so am reluctant to spend another £1,000 yet with battery and charger on one short long reach. I will see in the spring what is best suitably to buy professionally.

I've been quoted £550 for the extendable stihl with the ap300 and charger.
  • Pelenc seem the best. But very expensive.

Yes they look really good! Equally I sincerely hope (maybe naively) that Sthil will continue to live up to their reputation. I know the local dealers well and like to have that local backup even though this is not so important for cordless.

Thanks for the replies guys. £550 is a good price Richard, what price have they quoted you for body only? I already have an ap300 and charger. I am building up cordless slowly as my older machines become a bit 'tired'. Personally I think the benefits are big enough to justify the cost

£336 inc the vat shell only

That's a good price Richard! You can get them a bit cheaper online but I would rather pay another tenner to buy from a local dealer.

I looked at these a few weeks ago - and was dismayed to learn that the Stihl strimmer I bought only a few weeks earlier, takes a different battery to the Stihl hedge cutter..., though I think they use the same charger.... I already have 2 dewalt battery types, to have 2 stihl chargers as well seems overkill - soon a whole shelf of the van will be loaded with battery chargers, all charging there own specific battery :(

I've got the smaller long reach that folds in half. It's brilliant. Hardly ever have to get my ladder out now! I held both types in the shop and the longer extending one felt much too heavy to me.
