  • I priced a job at a New build the other day as you'll see for my fencing topic

Next door to the job I was at they had asked the builders to lay turf...£8 per square meter supply and lay, they never raked it or added in more topsoil!

Now I can buy better grade turf at £2 per square meter so they have added on £6 to throw it down basically !!

It's not been watered either as it has shrunk and burnt dramatically
  • So it would be best t charge as what state the site is in what about tender would you put a clause in saying must be levelled to decent grade and price again on that

    • If it's just the front gardens that you'll be doing then you should be fine as they seem to be levelled out and look ok it's the back gardens that are a complete and utter mess, I don't know how they get away with leaving it in that kind of state.

When I was pricing the fence i also proved the garden for turfing, 150 square meters, if I were to bring in enough soil to level the garden it would have been around 25-30 ton due to the run from the house to the boundary wall so I only priced for rotovate, rake, prep and lay turf and my price worked out at £6 a square meter supply and lay

Do you need to supply turf aswell?

If you can go to a local turf farm and say something like "I've got a contract to turf 50 new build houses at 10sqm each" I'm sure they would work out a decent price for you then you could add on a bit more for yourself mate

I'll do some digging around and see what I can find rates wise...what company is it you are tendering to? Pm me if you wish, don't worry Im not going to try and poach it haha
  • With all commercial work, there would be specifications to work to.  It is there that you will find what is the builder's responsibility.  As the landscaping is usually the last of the trades to be bought in, some builders will try and skimp to save money, hence 'slapping some turf down' on under prepared ground. Be honest, price to prep and lay correctly - at the price you will make some money, not the price 'you have heard' they are getting.

    • Thats great thanks for tge replues
