Cobra mowers

Evening,Ive have a quick search on the forum but looking for reviews from anyone using Cobras. Would you recommend and specifically does the fan assisted collection make a huge difference? The model I'm looking at is the RM48SPS. We currently run Hondas but are looking for something that picks up better (the holy grail). I'm aware of the jobs etesias can do but looking at slightly cheaper alternatives. Should also add that we've tried Vikings and had no end of problems with the rollers so won't be trying again. Thanks in advance

I have used one of these on demo, not a bad machine, good collection but once you have used a plastic ressie boxed mower like the Viking then your expectations of collection go up. Also the one I used had a Kawasaki engine, the new Cobras have a Subaru engine so not sure of the reliability? I thought the machine was well made and sturdy, the only thing I didn't like about it was the length, for a 19" mower that baby is long.... Comes with a years commercial warranty which is good, definitely worth a go if you want a change from the Hondas... Good luck

    Hi

I bought a 21" Cobra last year. The one thing that struck me straight away in comparison to the Hondas we also use is the speed. The Cobra is a sllllllllooooooooowwwwww mower!! So slow infact, nobody wanted to use it!

I can't say I've noticed that it collects any better either.

If you're talking about the Cobra Pro range with GXV engines (and I suspect the Subaru), they all need their rpm tweeking post delivery or at the time by a good Tech.

Most come set far too low for Noise/Emissions reasons

Also, worth noting that only the 2015/16 model year versions have the faster gearbox.

Worth noting the Kubota W821R with the Honda engine range come set 'slow' too - its all to do with the factory settings being low as Gary rightly states for noise reduction and emissions reasons.

As with all, they can be adjusted.....

Hi Gary, yeah mine has the GXV engine. I did have the rpm tweeked when I got it but when we raced it alongside the honda it was still two mower lengths behind. I do plan on seeing if we can squeeze a bit more out of it.

Another thing we noticed is that it feels heavier than the Honda when lifting despite them both supposedly weighing 56KG.

Thanks for the replies. Dealer had already mentioned about tweeking the speed once the engine was worn in. I had also noticed the length of the handles. May see if I can get one on demo and see what difference if any the fan assisted collection makes.
  • I know this is a old thread, but I've just bought the RM48SPS.

A quick question please, will it void the warranty if I get my Tech to speed it up?

    Thank you, Craig.

      Hi Craig,

You would be best to ask you cobra dealer. I suspect it may
