Cobra mower review please...

Good evening all.

I am looking at a new mower for mulching with. As I already own a 18" Cobra with rear roller and I am happy with it, I am now looking at another from Cobra.

Does anyone own any of these mowers in the links who could review it for me please?

The Cobra MX515SPB

The Cobra MX564SPB

I am leaning towards the 22" based on size.

Many thanks for any help and or replies.

Craig.

I've just had a look on cobra website.
For me it would be a no as it looks too plasticky and has a Briggs engine.
I also don't think it's heavy enough to be strong enough.
But then I'm quite rough with my mowers lifting them on and off the pickup
    • Don't you like Briggs and Stratton engines Richard?

      Could I ask why please?

      Thank you.

      • I would not buy anything with a Briggs on again. I have several on different mowers and they all hate starting when warm.

In a word no I don't like Briggs engines.
The only one I would buy would be a vanguard series.
They use far too much fuel are too noisy and seem to break too easily..
I had one seize after only 150 hours or so (to be fair it was replaced under warranty but that's hardly the point)
The other I had had piston ring issues after 2 years requiring a rebuild so it went in the bin.
Buy something with a Honda (or another japanese made engine Kawasaki suburu etc) engine on it if I were you as it will always work and you will get your money back for the extra you have spent through saved fuel and no downtime (unless you are very unlucky and get a bad engine that's slipped through quality control!)
        • Cheers Richard, I'll take a look at the Honda's.

Interestingly the Vanguard briggs engines are made in Japan.

I thought all the small B&S mower engines are US made and only certain models are made in Japan using US designs and parts (which seems strange)

If a choice exists, we stay away from B&S engines.

The Vanguards are made by Daihatsu last I heard. Do they make a small vanguard engine? I thought the smallest was a 16hp V twin.

My ride on does have a 22hp single cylinder Intek which has never given me any grief, however I too would always choose honda/kawasaki over briggs.

B&S Engines - where are they made ?

Would seem to suggest that vertical shaft Vanguards are still US made.

Are Briggs & Stratton engines made in the U.S.? | Search | Frequently Asked Questions | B…
