New blades mean you dissemble and rebuild. New cutter set comes ready assembled and require minor effort to install.
You also have the choice of original Stihl items or OEMs.
Don't overlook the price difference vs new machine.
There are several online suppliers who will have them with you in 24-48hrs.
Hi Gary, ideally don't want to replace the machine as its only 12 months old :(.
having a quick look online i see what you mean about price. I may be worth selling my current ones and buying a new hedge cutter. ill give a couple of deals a call and find a price for fixing first.
We all have HS45's for light duty work with HS81/86's for larger works.
According to Stihl dealer, we are not the only ones. It's quite a common choice.
Love the HS45, light wt, easy to use and cheap. Almost cheap enough to throw away after a year. Blades cheap. Only down side is no ground bump stop available and not for prolonged use..
Horses for courses.
It's an easy 10 min job. It is possible to bend them back straight.
I've seen them for £45 Inc vat new or £70ish genuine stihl
flogged my hs45 on the local car boot the other week, I don't miss it one bit lol
stihl hsa86 cordless...so much more pleasant to use and cuts anything the hs45 could...I have 4 of them in 2 different cutter lengths...plus the long reach models... I have kept my big petrol stihl hedge cutter (hs80?) which is unwieldy beast with a massive long cutting bar, as once in a blue moon I will require its ability to reduce the height of a hedge below the usual cut line. But apart from that, cordless all the way for me now lol
Yes I've bent a few when trimming up to a post, wall or hard floor.
I tend to use my KM130 combo more than the HS45's now (even for small shrubs and box). Simply because the fumes from the HS45's seem to head straight for me.
I know what you mean about the fumes some times. i only notice it if i have been using them for a while.
Barely gets used now so won't make a huge difference if I don't replace..
Tend to use a hs81r with tip protector for everything now. It's a little big but after a few mins it's a pleasure to use.
