get the saw blade for saplings the 8 blade for softer storks like cow parsley, thistles etc. the 3 blade will do long grass
Hope the storks don't have any siblings!
spelling is not my forty (bit disltet ) but I did reply to Gareth's post
Thanks David, that's exactly what i needed to know, i ordered the 48 tooth saw blade!
Just a head's up guys- the Stihl saw blade goes blunt easily and 48 teeth take a very long time to sharpen. You're better off (financially too) with a TCT tipped circular saw blade the right kind of size with the right bore mounting hole. Many come with spacer rings to fit different machines.
For your work Gareth, I'd look at the shredder knife and guard. The normal blades will cut the stems fine, but you're left with a mess to clear up. If it is indeed mainly foliage you're dealing with, a shredder knife lets you start at the top of the plant and mulch it all the way down to the base.
Cheers Ben, i'm looking into the shredder knife, the sharpening is a point i never thought of, dyou think this is a better choice than a tct circ saw for the job then?
Circular saws are only really for felling Christmas trees without bending down. Shredder knife destroys shrubs top down.
Can vouch for the shredder blade - it does a phenomenal job of the really fibrous stuff like Burdock, brambles & old thistles. Did find that the blade tips get worn down quickly if you're working on rough ground.
Gareth, I would try the shredder/Mulching blade but you do have to get the guard! I cleared about 2 acres of thick high brambles with mine and it made a really impressive job. I have a FS 360 so you may be able to get the larger blade for your 400. It cost about £60 ish for both. Last year i tried a blade and it did a reasonable job but the mulcher just rips through it.
