blade boss

hi all, bought an intek 65 engine off fleabay recently and having an issue removing the blade boss that it was fitted with.i know that they can be a pain to get off but his one is ridiculous and also a little different.first-it has 3 bolts on the underside to hold the blade-so guessing its a off a rover or something??second-it has what appear to be(hard to see through the rust), a hex bolt going through the side of the boss possibly into the crank shaft?if they are hex bolts fitted to do the job of a woodchuck key-then they are completely gubbered and will need drilling or cutting off..the blade boss is also high carbon steel... just to make things transpire even slower.if anyone has any idea what im talking about i sure would love to hear from you!cheers allneil

they do sound like grub screews so drill them out

use a good penitration oil and leave over night then using a wood mallet tap all around the boss untill it frees off

anything mounted onto the crank and never removed will be a sod to get off as the rust acts like super super glue which is super and will take some gentle easing

if you can find a pully puller brill

or make one out of a steal bar drill 3 holes - 1 centre then 2 in line with the boss holes
the 2 out side holes you bolt to the boss with space between the bar and boss and the centre hole is used to put a longer bolt through which will sit on the crank with the nut on the inside
turn the centre bolt while having a spanner on the nut (cetre bolt again) and this should pull off the boss square/ straight

if that makes no sence i will try to draw a diagram up later and post that aswell
  • cheers neal but i had a puller on it for about a week already heavily doused in penetrating oil...and nothing. took mr angry grinder to visit the blade boss today and found out that the boss was in 2 parts, one part was the pulley that had the rounded off hex grub screws and the lower half the actual blade boss. lots of cutting later and i now discover the shaft is smaller than the bosses i usually use on my mowers. big P.I.T.A!

thanks for the reply anyway ; )
