Best time to lay turf?

Hi guys,

Thought I'd start discussion on here about the best time, in your opinion, to lay turf?

I personally think as long as it's not too wet and snowy, it's good but I do find sometimes (depending on the area) it can be best to lay it in the milder months, so spring and autumn time. What do you think?

  • You've answered you're own question I think. Although the height of a dry summer really is a bad time. Trouble with winter or wet months is getting a good tilth on the land

    • Yeah I don't think I would ever lay turf at the height of summer, especially somewhere susceptible to drought, but as Colin says, you'll do as told haha!!

  • Ok, ideal time to lay turf - September/October and March/April.  But not being an ideal world, we have laid turf throughout the year and having landscaped many new sites, if the completion says 'end Jan', then you know you have to do your best to comply - it's amazing what you can do when pushed!
