Aspen Runners

Hi All,

My current client recently had a huge Aspen removed before we started the landscaping works. Problem is now the relentless struggle against the runners shooting up all over the place. Does anyone have and tricks and tips on how to get rid of them now the tree has been removed? will they slowly just die down now if each one is killed off?

Thanks in advance

My house and garden back onto a large playing field that had a Aspen in the corner.

I don't know when, but it had a lighting strike damaging it. Several neighbours requested that it was cut down, when the council team arrived to fell it I asked if it really had to come down and whether a good trim would sort it out.

The council guys said it would have to come down and that several neighbours had requested that it should be.

I said to them that the neighbours complaints were a result of the runners coming up in their gardens and enquired what would happen to the runners if the tree was cut down.

The guys from the council laughed and said "You already know the answer to your question, the runners are going to go ballistic trying to replace the tree we are cutting down".

Eighteen months after the tree was cut down there is a potential Aspen forest at the bottom of my garden that I keep knocking back with the mower and a strimmer.

I am expecting them to be still appearing for many years to come.

Ecoplugs are a handy safe method for reducing and stopping the regrowth/ runners. Aspen is on the product label:HERE
