Any mechaincs among us ??

My trusty T reg, ford transit, diesel (ex bt) has served me well for a couple of years now and not missed a beat.Until recently she seems to be really loosing power ! especially on hills, even the smallest incline she makes hard work of it. Even getting out pulled by full concrete mixer ! There doesn't seem to be any blue or black smoke from the back end. Don't get me wrong it was never fast to start with.If anyone could offer any hits as to what could be wrong would be much appreciated.James

  • Thanks for those surgestions Colin, someone told me it could be the fuel filter. I'll just have to take it to the garage and see what they say.

Thanks for the link, there are some serious transit heads on there
  • it could be the pressure return pipe on the injectors. look at top of engine, you will see 4 injectors wiyh metal pipes, plus rubber pipes next to it,there should be a short pipe with a stop on it on the injector near the front of engine.this needs moving to the rear injector and a longer hose to join into where the rear injector was connected, make sense. or try undoing an injector while engine is running,it may have an air lock.we had same trouble on v reg smiley, after £1200 pump...bought a £3 rubber pipe...oops.
  • Our volvo 940 showed the same symptoms 18 month ago, - no umph when needed (hills etc.) and was getting worse. We took it to three garages, the first two each tweaked £150 off us, the third, a volvo specialist 40 miles away said the turbo was shot and that we'd need - a new turbo, which would then require a new engine also ...Well the turbo was fine, - you want to know what the problem really was? ... on a volvo website forum, a chap suggested to us that it might be something as simple as a hole in one of the turbo's connecting rubber hoses ( like on your hoover, hole in the hosepipe - no suction). We looked, and there it was, a hole big enough to stick your thumb in. So much angst, so simple answer - new hose, £20, inc. fitting. I see you posted two weeks ago James, - you found your answer yet?
  • Not found the answer yet as i've not had much time to take it off the road. I'm hoping it will be something like a 20 quid hose though !
