Advice for gate bases

Evening all.

One of my suppliers has asked me to quote to do the groundworks for a job they are pricing up. Basically they need a 400mm x 400mm x 400mm cube concreted in the ground and the surrounding block paving reinstated so that all thats visible is the top of this box. Its an electric gate motor,

similar to this

The manufacturer hasn't supplied any sizes for the concrete footings, but the motor box has studs which protrude from the bottom into the wet mix. I have asked the client to contact the supplier about this. I was thinking 500mm x 500mm and 650mm deep.

Any advice would be well received.

How long are the studs that come out the bottom of the motor box?
  • well I have the instructions now, with install guide. Basically the box is tiny, and only requires around 100mm of concrete on all sides. No studs come out the bottom.

The only pain will be installing the soak away for the drains in the casings as they have already had it block paved.

I will be adding around 200mm concrete all the way round. the gates are around 2m wide, and about 1.6m tall. The will have a top pivot from the wall.

All the wiring is in place :) My only issue is that the drive has a slight slope(right pillar to left) and the bases have to exactly level. so in theory one motor case will come out ever so slightly more than the other.

I'd be very nervous doing that job the amount of concrete required seems tidy. Or is this box holding none of the weight of the gates? Just difficult to imagine without looking.
      Slowly slowly for setting level!!!
      • I know what you mean about the concrete. I will just run a line across and that will have to be that! they don't want all the block work redone so its perfectly level. We are talking about mm over 4m.

thats the manufacturers instructions. The motors will be against the backs of the pillars.

Rather you than me that looks way to complicated for me!!
It will be fine as long as you get it right first time! I think I would have nightmares about that. I think it's one of those jobs that is really simple once you know how but until then a nightmare, good luck with it though! Post some pics when it's done
