Only suggestion I have is a long ladder tied in, a second body to hel stabilise said ladder and be very very careful
    • Thanks Andy, I think you might be right. I'm financially driven to do the job as it's a good earner but don't want that to make me overlook being safe!

Sometimes it's best to hand over to someone else. Personally when asked in the past to do a similar job I advised tree surgeons. But that said its not an impossible job. Just risk assess check your insurance and off you go
        • Thanks buddy. Such is the lifestyle we choose, who'd be a landscaper eh?! I've a pretty good insurance cover set up but I'll double check it. Thanks again.

Do check as some policies exclude working at height and/or push you to almost to change your work type to tree surgeons to get that cover.

My experience is to never assume with insurance and get it confirmed in writing/email by broker or Ins. Co.

Remember it's just not to cover you, but also to indemnify your client.

  • You can get a small cherry picker through...

One of the spider leg machines would be perfect

    • Hey James, thanks man, I've been looking at all sorts of access solutions. The client is aware that they're looking at a heftier bill than usual due to the height. Can't find anywhere that hires Henchman hi-steps which is a shame as they'd do the job. Maybe I just need to grizz it out and buy one!
      • I'm talking a small hinowa not henchman

A genuine question/comment - I hope you guys charge a corresponding rate for risking life and limb? I also hope you all have done risk assessments, have method statements and are insured for this type of work in case you get injured.

A lifetime injured, is a lifetime wasted. We purposely will not do work like that as most clients I've ever come across will not pay a "landscape gardener" sufficient, but will pay a Tree Surgeon to come in and do it ! Is it  an issue of 'perception' ?

Agree. It is wise to know one's limitations but some comments above show some are out of those limits.

It is great to be creative and solve problems but one is running a business - with for me employees - I need to consider their welfare, not just the bottom line as some may. When you work on your own, one takes risks - perhaps unnecessary risks.....

Working for commercial clients, one has to know the limits for safely and legal reasons and when to call in a Experts who can action a job safely, effectively and profitably.

Quite simply, I would aghast at someone doing a work at height job based on comments above.  If anyone where to be seen on top of tree trunks etc, not harnessed etc you would chucked off site and probably reported to HSE. You risk yourself, your reputation and effectively your life.

The example I used of a tree surgeon is based upon the fact they have been trained to work at height and like it, they have the right gear, they have the experience, work methods and insurance to cover themselves.

Sorry, I cant quite make your last sentence out - whether it's dismissive or supportive of anyone who wants to do tasks the right way, the safe way?
